PULSE Creative Concept Decorators

Many people, when faced with the
prospect of redecorating their home, are too familiar with the existing interior to take a completely new and creative look at what is actually there. All the furniture and objects have been lived with for too long, making it difficult to see new possibilities. What is needed is imagination and an eye for reinvention, seeing possibility where the client only sees problems. This is where the trained eye and fresh approach of the PULSE team can be invaluable. The client might for example only see an old and dated lounge suite. A simple slipcover can transform it, relatively cheaply and easily, into something brand new.

What is needed for truly original and creative interiors is the boldness to break with convention and follow your instinct. Homes should say something about the people who live there.

This Division forms the core of the services that PULSE offers. In some cases clients will want to start from scratch, and here PULSE can advise on all aspects of the new interior: the acquisition of new

furniture, curtains, rugs, cushions, upholstery and other decor objects, as well as the colour schemes for the interior and exterior walls.

Ferdi's talent for unusual combinations can be seen in this striking living room, from the house of Pretoria architect Tienie de Ridder. The art deco chairs were bought by Tienie on Ferdi's advice, after mutual aquaintances decided to sell it. Its soft curves and plush comfort acts as the perfect foil to the almost stark minimalism in the rest of the home. The wall hanging in the background is simply a piece of poetry printed on a sheath of transparent fabric. It's unusual length automatically draws the eye upwards, accentuating the double volume space of the room. The low-slung glass coffee table on castors allows the cowskin

rug to be admired, while the wheels make the table easily movable.

Ferdi's love of gardens has led him to expand his interior service to landscaping. In Tienie's garden he used strong, angular shapes of grass and gravel, interspersed with indigenous trees. The almost classical geometry of the slate-paved splash pool is accentuated by four concrete globes, placed in an exact square around the pool, mimicking its shape.
